You get a good overall picture of Utö and its history by choosing the following route for your walk around the island. It is also worthwhile to go and see Österäng (East Meadow) and the local graveyard. The Military areas are fenced off, barred or clearly marked with signs.

When walking on the island, keep in mind that quite a few people live here, especially during the summer. They value their privacy. Therefore, don’t go into the boathouses, sheds or courtyards or on private jetties. Whatever the season, keep to public roads or footpaths. In this route guide, we have provided you with basic information about some interesting places and their history. More detailed information about the history of the island is available at the exhibition in the museum.
